ARC ALERT

An Act Concerning Inclusive Programs for Students with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities at the Connecticut State University System, SB01413, in the State, currently is under review by the Connecticut State Legislature’s Committee on Higher Education and Employment Advancement. PLEASE keep SB01413 alive! Please support education and inclusive programs for people with IDD!

Here’s why is matters:

PROMOTING INCLUSIVE HIGHER EDUCATION

SB01413 mandates the development of inclusive educational programs within the Connecticut State University System, allowing students with IDD to participate in higher education without traditional barriers such as standardized tests or minimum GPAs. This initiative resonates with The Arc ECT's commitment to providing advocacy, education, and community-based services that empower individuals with IDD to lead fulfilling lives.

EMPOWERING INDEPENDENCE AND COMMUNITY INTEGRATION

The Arc ECT supports this bill because it helps people with IDD be part of college life and the community. At The Arc ECT, people with IDD already have great places to learn job skills and work, like The Cookie Factory, The Emporium Thrift Store, and The Donation Station. These businesses give people the chance to earn money, meet new people, and feel proud of what they do. SB01413 will give even more chances for people with IDD to go to college, join activities, and get support to succeed.
